International border disputes
Since 1980 Menas has provided specialist research and expert testimony services
in international territorial disputes.
We support governments and law firms by gathering vital evidence to prove the
ownership of onshore or offshore territory in border dispute cases heard before
the International Court of Justice in The Hague and in bilateral arbitration
courts. We also help governments to determine the strengths and weaknesses of
their
claims before they are submitted to any court.
Working in close partnership with specialist lawyers, our role typically
involves paralegal activities such as archival and historical research of
primary and
secondary sources of information; cartography and map research; technical
surveying, hydrography, and remote sensing; anthropology, geography and
primary field
work.
We have also conducted major studies for international oil companies of the
competing claims in the North and South Atlantic, Mediterranean, Red Sea, Black
Sea,
Caspian Sea, Persian Gulf, Indian Ocean, Gulf of Thailand and the South China
Sea.
