Case study: GCC market entry studies and strategies
The challenge
A North American oil company which had no international experience what-so-ever
decided that it wanted to explore E&P opportunities in the Gulf. Before
doing so, however, its new international department needed to understand both
the
decision making process, and who the main stakeholders were, in Bahrain,
Kuwait,
Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.
The Menas solution
We were commissioned to prepare six individual country reports. Each
explained
what made the country tick; what the main domestic and foreign issues were at
the
time; how decisions were made in the oil sector; who the main stakeholders or
decision-makers were; and what the client's strategy could or should be in each
country. We then sent a two-man in-house team of Menas experts to the company
headquarters to both give the client a presentation on each country and to
answer
questions from its international team.
The result
The company established a regional office in the Gulf and its Middle East new
business development team was able to explore opportunities throughout the
region
with confidence that it had the necessary understanding of each of the six
countries.
